We had a great time catching up with everyone at the Australian Utility Pole Conference in Sippy Downs, QLD this week. Thanks for the insights everyone!
The major themes that seemed to come up in our discussions were;

  • Everyone wants to go to NDT, but nobody is assessing it correctly (i.e. comparing the results to the results from standard practices, and to the results of full-scale testing).
  • Those that have been using NDT for some time now would not do an inspection without it. They feel “naked” without it and the insights that it gives.
  • There are lots of issues with existing inspection practices, whether it be accuracy, repeatability, reporoducibility, software, data accuracy, reporting or training. Change management and brain drain were two areas making improvements to the above difficult.
  • People are re-inventing the wheel with some technologies and assessments, rather than communicating among the industry. This forum provided a great avenue for cross-utility discussions.Nathan talking about Revo Group
