What was Revo Group contracted to do?
Horizon Power engaged Revo Group to assist with the design and certification of its double rail pole bracket. Horizon Power wanted to have their new method certified to AS/NZS 7000 for structural capacity. The bracket is an update to the traditional method of cutting a hole through the pole with a blow torch to install a king bolt and a standard crossarm arrangement.
Horizon Power is a State Government-owned corporation that provides electricity to more than 100,000 residents and 10,000 businesses in regional areas of Western Australia. Horizon Power’s service area covers approximately 2.3 million square kilometres.
Horizon Power reached out to Revo Group due to our knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in the structural calculations of the project. Horizon Power chose Revo Group through an internal recommendation after other industry contacts did not have the expertise Horizon Power were seeking.
What was achieved?
At Revo Group, our team was able to come up with a design for the rail pole brackets that complied with current standards (AS/NZS 7000 and AS4100 in particular), while also meeting Horizon Power’s requirements for the brackets. These requirements included:
- Minimised weight for installation
- No holes to be drilled in the pole, and
- The ability for the bracket to support a range of conductors, spans, termination (including stays), strain, angle, and intermediate arrangements.
Revo Group then produced shop detail drawings and the bracket was manufactured locally prior to testing.

Benefits of the work completed?
The rail pole brackets design enables Horizon Power to install its complete crossarm catalogue range and strain points to the existing rail poles without the use of a blow torch. This has created greater flexibility for Horizon Power, whereas the previous brackets had restricted the options available greatly.
